John Byrnes, MD is a widely recognized for his expertise in healthcare quality, patient safety and physician leadership engagement.
During his recent 11-year tenure as chief quality officer at Spectrum Health, the organization has received over 100 quality awards, was ranked three times as one of the nation’s top 15 health systems and has received multiple Top 100 hospital designations.
Dr. Byrnes currently serves on the national faculty for the American Association for Physician Leaders (formerly ACPE) and speaks frequently at the ACHE Congress.
He has authored more than 30 articles in major journals and contributed to eight books. He has written two books, The Quality Playbook, 2015 and The HRO Playbook, 2017 with his co-author Susan Teman, RN.
He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He completed an internship in internal medicine and residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, The Texas Heart Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Memorial Hermann Health System.
