System Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety, Center for Clinical Excellence
Dr. Mallela is the VP of Quality and Patient Safety at SSM Health. In this position she drives all quality and safety efforts across SSM Health including ambulatory care, hospitals and post-acute care. Headquartered in St. Louis, SSM Health is a Catholic not-for-profit health system serving communities across the Midwest through a robust and fully integrated health care delivery system. In 2002, SSM Health became the first health care organization in history to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the highest award for quality in the U.S. The system includes 23 hospitals, nearly 300 physician offices and other outpatient and virtual care services, 10 post-acute facilities, comprehensive home care and hospice services, a pharmacy benefit company, a health insurance company and an accountable care organization. With more than 20 years of progressive clinical, executive and consulting experience, Dr. Mallela has served in various leadership roles with multiple organizations, including academic medical centers, community hospitals, and integrated health care systems to help improve quality and safety along with efficiency and effectiveness in health care operations across the care continuum. Her areas of expertise include quality, safety, clinical operations, care model redesign, risk management, compliance and privacy, informatics, research, case management, data analytics and physician affairs.
As a registered nurse, she has a Master’s in business administration (MBA), a PhD in Alternative Medicine, is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality® (CPHQ) and Infection Prevention and Control (CIC).
